  • What is the difference between Sunscreen and Sunblock?
Before I explain the difference between the two; just know as an esthetician, skin lover & sunblock enthusiast, I am ecstatic with your curiosity to know the difference! So lets begin... Sunscreen just like its name only "screens" the harmful UVA & UVB rays from touching your skin. Sunscreen will only partially protect you and is recommended you reapply every 2 hours to provide some type of protection. Sunscreens are usually called "chemical sunscreens" because they contain ingredients that require a chemical reaction from the sunrays to become effective. The active ingredients are absorbed into the body, which then the UV rays are dispersed evenly causing a less harmful energy to the body. Sunscreens are usually in favor because of the cheaper prices and don't cause a white cast onto the skin. Sunblock just like its name it "blocks" the harmful UVA & UVB rays from harming your skin. Sunblock's are usually a thicker consistency and give a white cast. Sunblock's usually contain the ingredient 'Zinc Oxide', which is the best known ingredient to block sun rays. Sunblock is usually called a "physical sunblock" because unlike sunscreens they cause the UV rays to bounce off the skin. Sunblock are usually not sought out for as much as sunscreens but are a better option for the skin.
  • How do you wash your face properly?
I wouldn't say there is a proper way to wash your face, but the way I suggest my clients and everyone is to use your hands. Your hands are amazing tools and shouldn't be ignored. Grab a 'Quarter Size' drop of your cleanser into the palm of your hand. Depending on your cleanser type add water and massage into a lather. (Ex. The Pomegranate Cleanser from SkinScript does not lather/foam and should be applied to a dry face.) Massage into your skin for 2 minutes; avoid rubbing or tugging skin harshly. Repeat with your second cleanser. Usually this cleanser is an exfoliating cleanser* or more targeted to your skin type. *exfoliating cleansers should be discussed with your esthetician to ensure you aren't damaging your skin barrier and more.
  • What is a Facial?
Facials keep your skin healthy and are for specified to certain skin conditions. A plan of skin care treatments make up the whole overall facial like: steam, masks, extractions, peels and massages. Facials are usually recommended to be done every month or seasonal. They are beneficial to the skin to prevent aging, or address issues like acne or sun spots. Facials are usually a relaxing treatment done in a quite atmosphere and filled with an ambiance of relaxation.

  • What is toner?
Toners were made to level out the pH level on your skin but with new technology they do more than just that. There are two main categories for toners; Hydrating or Exfoliating. Hydrating toners are meant to hydrate the skin. Usually infused with ingredients that provide, soothing, calming, and hydration benefits. These toners usually can be applied through out the day or just once after cleansing the skin. You can apply toners with a cotton round or sprayed. Exfoliating toners are meant to exfoliate the skin by stripping the skin of extra oil or slough off dead skin cells with active ingredients. These toners are applied after cleansing the skin and are meant to exfoliate the skin by being applied by spray or even cotton round. These toners should not be applied everyday and should be only used when advised by your esthetician.
  • How do you apply a serum on to your face?
Serums are not meant to just be slapped on to your face and rubbed on vigorously. Serums are meant to be applied and patted into the skin. Double cleanse your skin. Optional: Apply your toner. Using the palms of your hands apply the serum, and pat them into the skin. The skinscript serums you only need 1 pump for your entire face. Serums are very concentrated. Apply your moisturizer Follow up with your SPF (only daytime).
  • What are Serums?
Serums are usually the 3rd step in your skin care routine. Serums are meant to fix one or two things in your skin. They are very concentrated formulas that are applied after washing and toning your face. Serums target things in the skin like dark spots, deep hydration, or anti-aging benefits. They are the best thing to keep in your skin routine to up keep between your facial appointments.
